As Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has completed four years, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has stated that it has democratised ecommerce and widened access for everyone.
Highlighting the occasion, Goyal noted that the platform has enabled open participation and fostered innovation and collaboration. ONDC has brought small shopkeepers into the digital marketplace and has strengthened trust, benefiting both consumers and sellers, the union minister wrote on X.
“Four years of ONDC, transforming India’s ecommerce landscape! Over the past four years, ONDC has democratised ecommerce across products and services by enabling open participation and fostering innovation and collaboration,” he added in his post.
The minister shared the data highlighting that ONDC has enabled over 350 million transactions to date, reflecting rising adoption across sectors and regions. The infographic highlighted that the partnership with the national restaurant association of India (NRAI) has strengthened affordability, enabling 15 to 20 per cent lower consumer pricing.
Bharat Taxi, the country’s first cooperative taxi service under the Ministry of Cooperation is being built on ONDC. Highlighting the achievements, the data shared by the minister added that over 12 regional fleet operators have onboarded across the country, driving 64 per cent growth in hyperlocal supply. India Post-backed packaging, warehousing and last-mile delivery has been enabled for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in Gujarat, it pointed out.
Recently, Nasscom Foundation, in collaboration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), helped 200 women-led small businesses in Karnataka begin selling online through the ONDC Network. The move is part of a programme to improve the digital and financial capabilities of women entrepreneurs across 22 districts in the state.
